Cheerful 2015 from your Director!

I hope that your holidays were everything that you wanted them to be.

We are a few weeks into the new calendar year and so it seems like a good opportunity for us to reflect back on 2014 and set our aspirations for 2015.

Some highlights from 2014:

  • Shambhala Day 2014 included
    • Oaths of Office for myself as the Center Director, Muffie Noble as the Director of Practice and Education, and Steve Koper as the Chagdzo (our Center Treasurer);
    • Warm recognition for our past Director, Julie Rayda, who gave many years of service;
    • Recognition of our members with a presentation of the small but invaluable book, An Introduction to Shambhala Culture and a membership pin.
    • Sakyong’s Address
  • Completion of the first five levels of the Shambhala Training Weekends and most of the Everyday Life Series.
  • Basic Goodness I – Who Am I – an interactive online course presented over 6 Sundays in June.
  • Harvest of Peace Celebration and Sakyong Address
  • Presence at The Forensic Nurses International Association Meeting where we provided meditation resources and meditation instruction to nurses as a way of supporting caregiving for the caregivers.

Upcoming events for 2015 (click here):

  • Shambhala Day Celebration – February 21 and 22, 2015
  • Basic Goodness II – How Can I Help? The Basic Goodness of Society – March 7 and 8, 2015 – with Acharya Melissa Moore (no prerequisites)
  • Continuation of the Shambhala Training Weekends – Level 2 – Birth of the Warrior – April 17 through 19, 2015 (prerequisite – Level 1)

One of our aspirations for 2015:

  • We are actively involved in looking for another space for the Center.  We envision a larger uplifted space with natural lighting that is easily accessible and welcoming to all.  For this aspiration to be realized, it will require the support, time and energy of everyone who believes in our Center and would like to see us continue to reach out with the message of Basic Goodness.

How can I help with this aspiration?

  • Come and be part of the food, conversation and meditation.
  • Volunteer!  Look for upcoming information about volunteer opportunities.
  • Become a member – if you are interested and would like more information, please contact me at [email protected]

I am looking forward to seeing you soon!

With my warmest regards,

Barbara Gill-Forney

Director, Phoenix Shambhala Meditation Center
