Food, Conversation, and Meditation: Saturday Salons

Have you been to our Saturday Salons? This new program offers a monthly opportunity to engage more in the things that Sakyong Mipham has encouraged at the Shambhala Centers: food, conversation, and meditation.

Once a month (usually on the second Saturday), the Phoenix Shambhala Meditation Center will be open from 10 am to 2 pm. Several scheduled activities will be organized, and there’s always an opportunity for unscheduled things to arise.

The small meditation room will be available for those who are looking for more time to meditate. This session is unled and self-timed. Whether you prefer to sit for just ten minutes or 45, you’ll have an opportunity to spend more time on your practice.

The kitchen area will be open for general gathering and conversation. Bring your own lunch or enjoy the snacks we offer. Book discussions or other subjects may be scheduled, or we can discuss whatever comes up. One Saturday we had an engaging conversation about one of the lojong slogans, suggested by a participant. Feel free to bring your own suggestions!

The main meditation hall will hold various scheduled group practices. These may include open practices such as reciting the Heart Sutra, as well as practices that have prerequisites such as reading and study of the Letter of the Golden Key. Please check our calendar for details about the group practices scheduled for each month and any prerequisites that may apply.

Upcoming Saturday Salon dates are June 9 and July 14. We hope to see you there! If you have any suggestions for practices or discussion topics you’d like to see, please contact us!
