Community Update: New and Continuing Online Programming

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: In-person public events, including Sunday/Wednesday sittings and Heart of Recovery (Sarpashana), are continuing to meet via Zoom. While we have been testing a limited hybrid model (in-person/online), we are not prepared to expand in-person meetings at the Center at this time, given the increase in COVID case counts across Arizona. However, we are happy to continue offering online programming, including public sittings, book study groups, and a special course on the Four Reminders.

Online Sittings and Meditation Instruction

We’re happy to offer our regular weekly schedule of sittings via Zoom. You can join the Zoom meetings using a computer or mobile app at the following links:

Sunday Public Sitting 9:30 – 11:00 am
Heart of Recovery (Sarpashana) Tuesdays 7:00 – 8:00 pm
Wednesday Public Sitting 7:00 – 7:30 pm

You do not need a Zoom account in order to join. If you do not have the Zoom computer client or mobile app, you’ll be prompted to download it when you click the link, or you can download it here.

You can also join with a telephone call. Please visit our calendar and click the event you want to join for a list of phone numbers.

Public sittings, Sarpashana, and meditation instruction are always free. Donations are gratefully accepted. To make an online donation with PayPal, please visit our Donate page.

We are also offering meditation instruction by request. Please contact us at [email protected] and we’ll respond within 24 hours to set you up with a meditation instructor.

Ongoing Book Study Groups

Monday Night Book Study (Ocean of Dharma)

This study group meets via Zoom every other Monday at 7 pm, and will resume on November 23, 2020. We will read together Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche’s book Mind Beyond Death. During the Covid-19 pandemic we will meet via Zoom. If you are interested in joining the group, please notify Chris Noble-Power via text/phone call (602) 696-9694 and she will provide you the Zoom link. Post Covid-19, the group will re-establish a community meal at a participant’s home starting at 6:30 pm. We will continue to offer a Zoom link for those living at a distance or those who prefer Zoom.

It is helpful but not necessary to buy the book. We will likely have an electronic copy to share via Zoom. If you wish to purchase your own copy, it is available at retail vendors or online at Shambhala Publications.

Sunday Book Study

This study group meets on Sundays after Public Sitting, starting at 11:30 am (except where there is a conflicting event). For those joining on Zoom, you may use the same Zoom link as for Public Sitting. We hope to resume meeting in person at the Center when possible.

Turning Our Minds to the Dharma: A Class on Contemplating the Four Reminders

Starts January 9, 2021

Please join us for a special six-week online course on the foundational Buddhist teachings of the Four Reminders. These teachings invite us to contemplate the Dharmic view of the preciousness of our life, the impermanence of everything, how suffering is impossible to avoid, and how we are all subject to karma. Contemplating these truths can actually inspire us to appreciate our life more and to be more present to our experience. See our calendar listing for more information and to register.
