Online Programming: Regular sittings, Shambhala Sadhana opportunities, other classes

Public events at Shambhala Phoenix, including Sunday/Wednesday sittings and Heart of Recovery (Sarpashana), are continuing to meet via Zoom. We are beginning to discuss options for reopening the Center but at this time we are not offering in-person events; please continue to watch for updates in coming months. However, we are happy to continue offering online programming, including public sittings, book study groups, and other online classes.

Online Sittings and Meditation Instruction

We’re happy to offer our regular weekly schedule of sittings via Zoom. You can join the Zoom meetings using a computer or mobile app at the following links:

Sunday Public Sitting 9:30 – 11:00 am
Heart of Recovery (Sarpashana) Tuesdays 7:00 – 8:00 pm
Wednesday Public Sitting 7:00 – 7:30 pm

You do not need a Zoom account in order to join. If you do not have the Zoom computer client or mobile app, you’ll be prompted to download it when you click the link, or you can download it here.

You can also join with a telephone call. Please visit our calendar and click the event you want to join for a list of phone numbers.

Public sittings, Sarpashana, and meditation instruction are always free. Donations are gratefully accepted. To make an online donation with PayPal, please visit our Donate page.

We are also offering meditation instruction by request. Please contact us at [email protected] and we’ll respond within 24 hours to set you up with a meditation instructor.

Ongoing Book Study Groups

Monday Night Book Study (Ocean of Dharma)

This study group meets via Zoom every other Monday at 7 pm, and will resume on November 23, 2020. We will read together Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche’s book Mind Beyond Death. During the Covid-19 pandemic we will meet via Zoom. If you are interested in joining the group, please notify Chris Noble-Power via text/phone call (602) 696-9694 and she will provide you the Zoom link. Post Covid-19, the group will re-establish a community meal at a participant’s home starting at 6:30 pm. We will continue to offer a Zoom link for those living at a distance or those who prefer Zoom.

It is helpful but not necessary to buy the book. We will likely have an electronic copy to share via Zoom. If you wish to purchase your own copy, it is available at retail vendors or online at Shambhala Publications.

Sunday Book Study

This study group meets on Sundays after Public Sitting, starting at 11:30 am (except where there is a conflicting event). Starting on March 28, 2021, we will be reading Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s book Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism. For those joining on Zoom, you may use the same Zoom link as for Public Sitting. We hope to resume meeting in person at the Center when possible.

Shambhala Sadhana

While we are not offering Shambhala Sadhana practice at this time, we encourage you to visit the Boulder Shambhala Center online, where they are offering the Shambhala Sadhana monthly on the full moon. Please see their calendar to choose Full Moon Shambhala Sadhana for your desired date, and register to receive a link for the online practice. (Please note the time difference if you are joining from Arizona.)

For those who have received the lung for the Shambhala Sadhana or have attended Enlightened Society Assembly, Boulder Shambhala is also offering a 4-part course to further explore this practice. Please visit their website for details and to register.

Shambhala Training

Have you taken Levels I through III ? We are happy to offer the remaining levels of Shambhala Training online. Awakened Heart (Level IV) begins April 10, and Open Sky (Level V) begins June 12. Please see the links for more information and registration. Prerequisites apply. If you have taken Level IV and V before, you are welcome to re-take them at a reduced rate.
