Ongoing programming at the Phoenix Shambhala Center

We offer regular weekly meditation sittings and Heart of Recovery (Sarpashana). Additional classes on meditation and Buddhist topics, and Sadhana practice opportunities, are offered online by our Center or others. Please read on for more information about our various offerings.

Weekly Sittings

Our Sunday Sittings are offered in a hybrid format. There will be limited seating for in-person attendees or you may join online. For in-person visits, we are following these guidelines provided by the CDC:

  • Correctly and consistently wear a mask that completely covers your nose and mouth.
  • Stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (or use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol).

To join any of our weekly meetings online via Zoom, please use the following links:

Sunday Public Sitting 9:30 – 11:00 am
Heart of Recovery (Sarpashana) Tuesdays 7:00 – 8:00 pm (Heart of Recovery is online only)
Wednesday Public Sitting 7:00 – 7:30 pm (Wednesday sitting is online only; there is no sitting at the Center on Wednesdays.)

You can also join with a telephone call. Please visit our calendar and click the event you want to join for a list of phone numbers.

Public sittings, Sarpashana, and meditation instruction are always free. Donations are gratefully accepted. To make an online donation with PayPal, please visit our Donate page.

Meditation Instruction

We are also offering meditation instruction by request. Please contact us at [email protected] and we’ll respond within 24 hours to set you up with a meditation instructor. We can offer instruction via Zoom or in person at Sunday sitting; please see the safety guidelines above if you wish to visit in person.

Ongoing Book Study Groups

Monday Night Book Study (Ocean of Dharma)

This study group meets via Zoom every other Monday at 7 pm. We will read together Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche’s book Mind Beyond Death. If you are interested in joining the group, please notify Chris Noble-Power via text/phone call (602) 696-9694 and she will provide you the Zoom link. (We will resume meeting in person at a participant’s home at some point in the future.)

It is helpful but not necessary to buy the book. We will likely have an electronic copy to share via Zoom. If you wish to purchase your own copy, it is available at retail vendors or online at Shambhala Publications.

Sunday Book Study

This study group meets on Sundays after Public Sitting, starting at 11:30 am (except where there is a conflicting event). Starting on March 28, 2021, we will be reading Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s book Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism. For those joining on Zoom, you may use the same Zoom link as for Public Sitting. Please see the safety guidelines above if you wish to attend in person at the Phoenix Shambhala Center.

Shambhala Sadhana and other practices

While we are not offering Shambhala Sadhana practice at this time, we encourage you to visit the Boulder Shambhala Center online, where they are offering the Shambhala Sadhana monthly on the full moon. Please see their calendar to choose Full Moon Shambhala Sadhana for your desired date, and register to receive a link for the online practice. (Please note the time difference if you are joining from Arizona.)

The Albuquerque Shambhala Center is offering White Tara practice on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7 pm Mountain Time (6 pm Arizona time during Daylight Savings). Please see their calendar for a Zoom link.
