Shambhala Day 2021 – Year of the Iron Ox

Update: The recording of the Shambhala Day broadcast is now available for free viewing at Shambhala Online.

This year’s Shambhala Day is Friday, February 12. Join the Phoenix Shambhala Center, the Southwest Region, and Shambhala Online for a slate of online celebration and practice opportunities.

Mamo Chants are done the last 10 days of the year (except for the neutral day, February 11), a period known as Dön Season that gives us the opportunity to clear the negativity of the past year. This year we are partnering with the Albuquerque Shambhala Center to offer Southwest Region chants. Join us every evening at 5:30, February 1 through 10. No registration or prerequisites are required, and chants will be shared on the screen for attendees to follow along. See our calendar listing for instructions for joining the online meeting(s).

For further study and practice during Dön Season, visit Shambhala Online. Each day from February 1 through February 10, guest teachers will offer talks and guided practices related to this end-of-year season, including John Rockwell on “Fresh Start” and Acharya Fleet Maull on “Transforming Personal and Societal Obstacles.” Please visit their website for a complete schedule and registration for the free talks.

The Phoenix Center will observe Shambhala Day on Friday, February 12 at 7 pm with an online program including a brief meditation session, a Heart Sharing circle, and viewing a portion of the official Shambhala Day broadcast. The theme of the broadcast is Celebrating Shambhala Culture and will have a particular focus on Shambhala contemplative arts and culture. Please see our calendar listing for instructions for joining the online event.

Shambhala Day is also traditionally a fundraiser for Shambhala Global Services, which supports Shambhala Centers worldwide. (See this document for an overview of SGS activities.) If you feel inspired to make a donation to Shambhala, you may do so at this page.

Have a very cheerful Shambhala Day, and good health to you and yours!
